Plus Size Fashion Tips for Black Tie Affairs

Some women hate getting dressed up for black tie affair events. They are afraid that they can't find the right dress or they just won't look good. There are plenty of plus size fashion trends that are great for black tie affairs and can make anyone look fabulous in the body that they have. If you are a plus size woman and worried about what to wear to your next black tie event, here are some fashion tips to make you look drop dead gorgeous.

When looking for plus size clothing for a formal event, don't automatically assume that you are going to be stuck in a long sleeve, down to your ankle, black dress. This may have been true about 10 years ago but plus size fashions have come a long way. There are beautiful and tasteful dresses that are halter, strapless and short sleeved.

If you are leery about wearing a halter dress and exposing your arms, then pair the dress with a matching shawl or wrap. Although most black tie affairs do call for long evening gowns, it has now become acceptable for teal length or mid-calf length gowns as well, so don’t rule out that style.

Look for evening dresses that will flatter your body shape. If you are an apple shape with a larger bottom half, then go with gowns that float away from the body as they get longer, such as empire waist or A-line dresses. These will show off your upper half and then minimize your bottom half. If you have a straight body type and want to add some curves, look for dresses that have a defined waist. A dress that has a sash or belt, or an actual definition of a waistline is a great idea for this body type.

Not every plus size woman is going to look the same in every dress just as not every woman who shops in any women's department is going to look the same. One of the best plus size fashion tips is to dress for your specific body and what looks good on you and not because of what everyone else is wearing.
